Thanks Be to God for His Indescribable Gift

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.

It’s too important to miss!

The message.

The why.

The reason behind the gifts.

The purpose behind the celebration.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift.

It’s not about the box, it’s what’s in the box, what’s behind the celebration that makes it so important!

It’s so simple even a child can understand it, but it’s not childish.

Children seem to understand it better than we adults do. We get tangled in the string of lights or our long “To Do List”!

Luke shares the story in Luke 2

An Ordinary Night

Luke 2:8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.

Suddenly Became Terrifying

9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

Do Not Be Afraid

10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Don’t you wish an angel would come to you with a message like that, “Do NOT be afraid.”

Oh, but have we forgotten that the angel’s message wasn’t just for the shepherds?

It wasn’t just for those few men settling down for the night.

Their message, the angels message echoes off the canyons and mountains and across the pages of time to come into your mess, into your heartache, into your dilemma. It will cause you great joy, if you dare to listen and respond like they did.

11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Let’s Go See

15When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.

I challenge you to see another facet of who Jesus is.

You’ll never know everything there is to know about Him. You’ll never really know Him from a distance. So come close.

Sit at His feet.

Peer into His face.

Listen to His voice.

To discover who He is.

To discover His peace.

To discover His joy.

Unwrap the Gift of God’s love.

Push past the clutter and clatter of the busy noise of life, to enjoy Jesus, the essence of life.

Embrace peace. You can make that choice. But no one can make it for you.

Shepherds went to see. They left their normal to experience Him.

They Shared the News

17When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,

18and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

19But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

20The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Thanks be to God for His indescribable GIFT!
